The Platform Services Windows Administration team is looking for a highly motivated, customer service oriented individual to help support Sallie Mae’s VMware ESXi infrastructure. The desired candidate will have experience with VMware vCenter 4.0, Update Manager, Converter, Heartbeat, VCB, View, and Site Recovery Manager products. A working knowledge of ESXi 4.0/5 are required.
The main responsibilities include installation, configuration tuning and troubleshooting of VMware operating systems and taking part in a 24×7 on call support rotation. The administrator will provide guidance to end users to ensure compliance with Platform Services policies and procedures. The ability to communicate with all levels of the organization is critical.
General team responsibilities:
Provide guidance to tier 1 for successful issue resolution, troubleshooting, and procedure implementation for daily activities
Create and update procedure documentation for tier 1 and 2
Server as escalation point for issues from tier 1 to assure timely and reliable resolution
Perform change management activities to review tier 1 and 2 changes to ensure compliance with required controls
Participate in on-call rotation providing support for tier 1 escalations, and management of the applications supported below
Application support/subject matter experts:
Direct support of Active Directory infrastructure including design, maintenance, and monitoring of systems
Support critical high availability Microsoft clustered server solutions including SQL and print clusters
Direct management of VMware virtualization platform comprised of vCenter and 200+ ESX/ESXi hosts
VMware specific skills:
Working knowledge of troubleshooting issues on ESXi 4.0/5
Experience opening and managing support requests with VMware when required
Experience performing and troubleshooting physical to virtual server migrations
General understanding of how to use the VMware SDK for scripting and troubleshooting
Good comfort level with Powershell (PowerCLI) and/or Perl (vSphereCLI) scripting environments for automation
